Blue Heron Arrives

Blue Herons are native to the North East region (in the United States), and are quiet hunters which build huge burrows and nests. One was lucky to cross my path, as she just finished eating a small fish she collected with her beak.  The drop of water that rested gently near its mouth, had fallen perfectly as the shutter released before cascading on the water.  The drop of water reflects her beautiful blue hue which is delicate and soft against her grey coloring and her clear bright yellow eye. Her pupil is focused down as she continues to search and hunt for small fish for dinner.  This is the first time I have captured a blue heron this close.  The occasion and opportunity is rare, as the heron was hunting I was capturing her.

Blue herons, this one here is about 3.5 feet tall and has a wingspan of about 6 feet.  They cruise between 20 to 30 miles per hour, and typically hunt alone.
